I know I have said this before but Mr. Martin is definitely on a roll with his Stone Soldiers series. A Lucky Day to Die, the 10th book in the series, is a fast-paced, action packed story that comes to a most satisfying conclusion. The antagonist in this story is is a foe that Colonel Mark Kensler has never encountered before and she counters his abilities at every turn. Even the vampire doctor is pretty much neutralized. The major 'item' I was pleased to see is the continued growth of Josie in her powers and how she is not only finding new ways to use them but how she is also becoming more comfortable with them. Even though she is still a little skittish with Kensler's methods, she has a lot to learn about his way of life. After all, she doesn't have to decades of experience of dealing with the supernatural as he has but she's coming along. The length of the story was just right also. An honest to goodness rollicking action adventure right out of the pages of a pulp fiction magazine. I enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend it!Product details

Not going to lie, Detachment 1039 always brightens my day with the wacky shenanigans they find themselves in. Sure, technically, Kenslir was working off the record on this one. And sure, all the various women in his life were put in some sort of peril, BUT THOSE THINGS HAPPEN WHEN YOU DO BATTLE WITH CRAZY SUPERNATURAL THINGS!
*ahem* Right. So. Las Vegas. The place where crazy is normal. The place where supernaturals can hang out and anything can be gambled away. Even their souls. As a public service announcement, never trust a scantily clad woman who just wants you to sign on the dotted line as a technicality. That never ends well, my friends. Never.
Beyond the soul-sucking, THINGS HAPPEN in this book. THINGS. We see more of Josie's ever-expanding powers (if you could bottle that girl's power output, you'd be set for life!), see a softer (albeit just as bloody as ever) side of vampire Laura, and get a little resolution to the relationship between Kenslir and his wife.
Oh, and there's fighting. Lots and lots of fighting. It's gloriously bloody. And decapitate-y. I always say, if you're going to remove someone's head, do it with your bare hands. It's so much more satisfying that way.
Fun, with a side of gore. Just the way I like it.

I have to say that I really, really like these characters and this story. It's not perfect, but I have to admit I'm going off to see if I have more of these...
Love the stone soldier series, each one better than the last. Page turning excitement. Can't wait till the next one hits the shelf n
I love these books and hate to finish them and yet can hardly wait to read the next one. I recommend these books to anyone who wants a entertaining read front to end and looking for more by C.E. Martin.
C.E. Martin again does not fail to deliver a fantastic and exciting adventure of the mind. And now with yet another new character in the mix! I anxiously await the next release!
